Lucas's story

February 1, 2020

It's a short time so make the most of it.

"Do the farm work and enjoy one of the best times of your life."

If you are open to a new experience, I recommend it. But I also suggest that people start looking for places as soon as they know they want to stay for another year in this country. I had read about farm work before I decided to go, so the expectation kind of matched with what I’ve experienced having lived it. The only thing I couldn’t do was save money... too much goon hahaha!

Here are some things you'll need to get used to:

- Waking up early
- Having only one day off per week
- Picking/Packing as fast as you can!
- Saving NOT spending money

Bottom line is you have to get used to it and understand that it's only a short period of your trip, so you might as well work your ass off! Learning to live with other people in a small room is not an easy thing either... I like my alone time, but it’s good to know that you are capable even when its uncomfortable. Overall I think it's all worth it, as you are rewarded with another year to spend in this amazing country.

Just don't forget to research hostels, towns, companies and at a minimum talk to people that have already done the farm work. A car helps a lot and it's a really good idea to have some spare money in your account just in case.

What else can I say but do the farm work and enjoy one of the best times of your life. Meet new people everyday, party hard, learn new abilities, new languages, new points of view and enjoy the nature!
